Ottawa, ON, August 20th, 2010 — Mayoral Candidate and City Councillor, Clive Doucet and Ottawa International Film Festival Executive Director, Nina Bains, officially opened the Ottawa International Film Festival in a ribbon cutting ceremony last night.

“It is with great honour that I officially open the first Ottawa International Film Festival,” said Mr. Doucet, on Thursday, August 19th at OIFF’s official launch to a capacity crowd of industry and government at Foundation Restaurant and Bar in the Byward market.

The festival will provide an opportunity to showcase local, independent film makers, Canadian productions and international films, highlighting the arts scene in the National Capital Region. “We need to get more festivals like this one started in Ottawa, and keep them growing,” said Mr. Doucet, who also cited Ottawa innovations like the Shakespeare Festival that left Ottawa for Stratford, Ontario and generates billionsin profits each year.

OIFF will feature 30 films from Canada and around the world at the Mayfair theatre on Saturday and Sunday, as well as a music video challenge on Friday night at the Lieutenant’s Pump on Elgin Street.
